Going The Mile with Miles
January 27, 2012
Rarely
when we listen to the music of our favourite artistes do we consider
things like who wrote, produced or arranged the material. We certainly
don’t scratch our heads saying ‘Hmmm…I wonder who the musical director
is?”. But after you hear our exclusive interview with Barbadian Miles
Robertson, I bet you won’t listen to music the same way again.
This
accomplished musician who comes from a long line of virtual music
royalty in the Caribbean is the son of the late Janice Millington and
Caribbean jazz musician Raf Robertson; but his musical skill can be
heard on both albums of the biggest musical artist today – Adele. You
see, Miles Robertson is Adele’s musical director. I bet you’re rushing
back to your cds now to check those fine print credits to see if I’m
right, but I guarantee you I am.

So
how did this young prodigy from an 11 x 14 island called Barbados get
to work with artists like Usher, One Republic, Take 6, Lisa Lisa, Najee
and eventually serve as musical director of Adele? One would think that
being firmly grounded in music through the influence of both parents
would be enough, but as you hum to “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone
Like You”, let this young man who decided that music is all he wanted to
do from as early as 14 years old, tell you in his own words what it
took to build his musical “muscle” to get him where he is today.
