Dwayne Smith set up crucial win over Sagicor Life UWI
November 28, 2011
YMPC captain Dwayne Smith became the second batsman to score a century in the four-year history of the BCA Sagicor General Twenty20 championship.
The West Indies allrounder set up a crucial three-run win over favourites Sagicor Life UWI at the 3Ws Oval that lifted his team to the top of the Zone ‘B’ standings in another rain-hit series.
In what was the only match of the fourth and penultimate series of the preliminaries following wet conditions caused by torrential rain Smith blasted 101 in a total of 160 for four off 18 overs.
His 64-ball innings included eight fours and seven sixes after YMPC were sent in following a late start by almost an hour-and-a-half.
UWI chased all the way but despite an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 95 between Omar Phillips and veteran Floyd Reifer, they were restricted to 157 for two.
Reifer, who ended the match with a six, slammed 61 not out off only 29 balls with five sixes and three fours while fellow left-hander Phillips made 38 not out.
